Thanksgiving Tips to Make Your Holiday Happy!

This Thursday, November 23rd is Thanksgiving Day. This holiday is a time for family, friends, and food! We have so many things to give thanks for (I know I do!) and here are a few tips to make us that much more appreciative.

  • Be grateful. First and foremost, Thanksgiving is a time to show your gratitude for the people in our lives and the things that we have. Oftentimes we forget how truly blessed we are in the midst of our everyday lives. It’s easy to complain and want more when the reality is that we usually have everything that we need to survive and thrive! So don’t forget the reason for the holiday… GIVE THANKS!

  • Don’t overeat!Yes, Thanksgiving is about gathering with the ones we love and eating a hearty meal. However, it’s important that we don’t let our eyes overtake our stomachs. Eating in small portions in moderation are key to not feeling the guilt of overeating later on. Also, eating a balanced meal that includes green vegetables, protein, and not too much starch is healthiest. Think balance!

  • Safely seal leftovers. When Thanksgiving dinner is complete, it’s important that we properly store our leftovers. Using airtight containers to pack food away is key in preventing the growth of bacteria, salmonella and the likelihood of food poisoning. Nothing spoils the holiday like the stomach flu! Let’s be mindful of how we are storing our food so that we can enjoy the fruits of our labor another day.

  • Give back! The Thanksgiving holiday is the perfect time to volunteer and help those less fortunate. It’s also a great time to donate those things that we may not need or use anymore. So whether you choose to volunteer at a soup kitchen or shelter, or clean your closet of the things you haven’t worn in a while, there’s always a way to show your gratitude and love to your fellow man/woman!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
